Handmade Natural Beauty INFORMATION:

Soap Defined

Did you know that most "soap" purchased in the store, is not really soap? Many of the commercial soaps available today are, actually, bars of detergent. These are made with synthetic ingredients, rather than natural ingredients. A true homemade soap retains all the natural glycerin which is produced when fats (natural oils) and sodium hydroxide (lye) are mixed together in precise ratios and temperatures. Glycerin is a natural moisturizer and cleanser that increases lather and produces a milder soap for the skin. In a lot of commercial soaps, the valuable glycerin is extracted and sold. It is replaced with cheaper synthetic alternatives which can be a lot harsher and irritating to the skin.

FYI: According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, "some of these detergent products are actually marketed as "soap" but are not true soap in the common and legal definition of the word".

Handmade Natural Beauty Product Variations

Most of our glycerin soaps are made in individual molds. However, the glycerin loaf slice soaps, the Shea Butter Soaps and Other Luxury Soaps are individually but, so no two are exactly alike. There will also be variations in color and weight. All stated weights are approximate. Please remember that products are handmade and slight variations can and will occur. These are not considered defects.

Soap Tips

Patch test: It is recommended that you test the soap on a small area of the skin to make sure irritation does not occur.

Use a good soap dish: For best results and a longer lasting soap, place on a soap dish which does not allow the soap to sit in water. This allows the soap to dry between uses and not melt as quickly. A soap dish with slats or drain holes works the best.

Longevity vs. Lather: The harder a bar of soap is the longer it will last. The softer the bar of soap is, the more lather it will produce. The longest lasting soap (hardest bar) is the Spanish Castile Soap. The softest and most lathering are the Shea Butter Soaps.
